The thing with OpenSuse is that a new version is due out in six days, so I'm in no hurry to install the current version. A new version of Mint is also due out at the end of this month, but that's a bit farther off.
After four reboots I finally have a Linux Mint with Mate v 15 login screen. It just needed some coaxing I guess. I suppose never pays to blog about the state of your Linux install without a good three or four reboots.
On another note I could always try the Gentoo or Debian route... I'll see how this install of Mint looks.
